[Tauriel's story is a little bit of an Orphan Annie tale, really. Technically speaking, she has nothing of her own, but her parents had both been servants of the Mirkwood family and the patriarch had seen to it that she'd gotten the best of everything. And she'd repaid the family by doing her best. Straight A student, co-captain of the archery team, it had all been picture perfect until this year. These past few months, Tauriel had gotten involved with the social activism crowd, and between arguments with her teachers, protests, and various stunts, she was winding up more often in detention than even she could stand.

Tall and redheaded, she strides into detention defiantly. She almost didn't show up at all, except her foster-brother had persuaded her, in order to alleviate his father's irritation over the issue. She scowls as she signs in and makes her way to a desk, coincidentally next to Kili's.]

[Kili looks up immediately as the door opens, desperate for some kind of distraction. Brown eyes widen as Tauriel walks in. Tall, beautiful, and a complete knockout, Kili's been crushing on her since he first saw her, but he's never quite had the courage to speak with her.

She sits down next to him and his heart skips. He realizes after a moment that he's staring and pulls out a notebook, feigning homework. He scrawls out a message and gives Tauriel's foot a gentle nudge, pushing the notebook towards her so she can see.]

what brings you to my part of town this lovely afternoon?

[Her gaze slides sidelong. It's Kili Oakenshield, one of those boys her foster brother can't stand and yet she's always considered to be pretty good looking. Always funny, rather sweet, and pretty tough - on the rugby team, after all.

Casually, she leans down to dig into her backpack, pulling out a notepad and pen and setting both down casually on her desk.]

[Smiley face? Definitely a good sign.

Kili grins. Maybe this detention won't be so bad after all.]

you, skipping class?

[He's heard rumor here and there of what the co-captain of the archery team has been getting up to, but the thing with rumors is that usually they're not exactly true.]

[She offers him a one shouldered shrug, slumping a little in her seat so she can stretch out those long legs of hers.]

[Oh. Hang on. Probably shouldn't have wrote that.]

[She can't help it, she smiles. She is a little offended, but it's also kind of funny and he can take care of himself.]

[Kili snorts audibly and gets a glare from the supervisor. He gives her an apologetic smile before scribbling down his response.]

AS IF

[The corner of her mouth quirks in amusement.]

so how come you're talking to me now?

[kilimanjaro]

[Kili makes a face and rolls his eyes.]

we're both bored in detention. and i've been meaning to talk to you for a while

[The letters are accompanied by a quick little sketch of an owl with overly round eyes.]

[He laughs at the little sketch.]

YA RLY

[His responding sketch is...a stickman.]

[She bites the corner of her lip to keep from laughing, but flicks her gaze upward to make sure the teacher isn't paying attention to them.]

[Kili grins sheepishly.]

may have called my teacher a cunt

[Her eyes cast heavenward.]

[He grins and shrugs.]

[Her brows flicker.]

[He hesitates a moment or two.]

[That was not the answer she was expecting. She puts her hand to her mouth to hide a smile.]

[Kili glances down.]

[He winks at her.]

[He shrugs lightly and looks around.]
